The SCFD Board will hold a special meeting to discuss a potential Intergovernmental Agreement with Lane Fire Authority.
A special meeting of the Santa Clara Rural Fire Protection District Board of Directors will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m., at Fire Station 62, 3939 River Road, Eugene, OR. The only agenda item is consideration of a proposed Intergovernmental Agreement with Lane Fire Authority.

The May meeting of the Santa Clara Fire District Board of Directors has been rescheduled to Monday, May 7 at 7:15 PM. This meeting will occur at the normal location, 3939 River Road Eugene, OR 97404.

Assistant Chief Bierman and Captain Rush drove Brush 627 to Cascade Fire Equipment in Medford today, where its pump was installed.
Brush 627 will respond to wildland fire calls once it is placed in service.

SCFD will host an open house at Station 62, 3939 River Road, Eugene OR, on September 10th, 2017. The open house will be between 2PM and 5PM.
The open house will celebrate the grand re-opening of Station 62, which recently underwent a seismic upgrade project. The upgrades to the station cost 1.3 million dollars, and 70% of the project was paid for with grant funds.

The Santa Clara Fire District Board of Directors will hold a Public Meeting at 7:15 PM, August 8, 2017. The meeting will take place at Santa Clara Fire District Station 62, at 3939 River Road Eugene, OR.
Please note that the Fire Board holds regular meetings on the second Tuesday of every month, at the same time and place listed above.
In addition to normal District business, the Board will be discussing matters related to a potential Intergovernmental Agreement with Lane Fire Authority at this meeting.

SCFD provided a Chief Officer and a Captain to fill Incident Command System roles at a recent mill fire in Junction City. Units were dispatched at 01:48 on Sunday morning. In total, over 80 firefighters from many local agencies responded to the fire.
Due to the large amounts of fuel involved, the fire is expected to continue to burn for several days.

The Boards of Directors for Santa Clara Rural Fire Protection District (SCFD) and Lane Fire Authority (LFA) are currently considering establishing an ORS 190 Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA). Under an IGA, the two districts would work together to provide all fire district services. Consolidating resources would allow SCFD and LFA to provide a higher level of service to their residents without raising taxes.
For more information on the potential IGA, members of the public and the media are encouraged to view the information on our IGA webpages. Information is provided about IGAs in general, successful examples of local fire service IGAs, and the reasons why SCFD and LFA staff think an IGA is needed. Copies of IGA-related documents are available for review and download.
SCFD and LFA welcome comments from the public about this potential IGA. If you would like to make a comment, you are encouraged to attend an SCFD or LFA Board meeting. Extremely high temperatures are projected for the rest of this week. As of this writing, every day from Tuesday until Friday has a forecasted high of over 100 degrees. The hottest day will be Wednesday, which is forecasted to be 108 degrees.
Temperatures this high can result in heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke, which is a life-threatening medical emergency. Common symptoms of heat exhaustion include heavy sweating, nausea, dizziness, rapid pulse, fatigue, and muscle cramps. If untreated, heat exhaustion can progress to heat stroke. Heat stroke symptoms include all of the symptoms of heat exhaustion, and may include a decrease in sweating. Heat stroke patients also can act inappropriately or have an altered mental status. To avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke, stay cool and stay hydrated.
Skyrocketing temperatures also increase the risk of wildfires. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Fire Weather warning for much of this week, meaning that the conditions are ideal for rapid fire growth. Please follow all fire restrictions and avoid any activities which could spark a fire.
Finally, if you or your family plan to take advantage of the hot weather by going to a body of water, wear a lifejacket.

Santa Clara responders were busy this past weekend, with 11 calls for service.
Of the 11 calls, there were three fire calls, two motor vehicle accidents, five emergency medical calls, and one lift assist call.
The SCFD depends on volunteers to provide service to the public, particularly on evenings and weekends. The district is currently recruiting new volunteers for an upcoming fire academy.
